One Saturday Only (for now)
At this time we still have several volunteers waiting to sign up, and a limited number of opportunities for Saturday build day, so we’re asking everyone to sign up for one Saturday only. This will allow everyone the opportunity to sign up at least once. In a few weeks, if spaces are still available, we will invite our current volunteers to sign up for additional Saturdays.

Be Flexible!
Please keep in mind that this construction schedule is subject to change. Our progress on the worksite depends on the weather, on our progress, and on several other factors. We will do our best to stick to the schedule listed above, but we ask that all volunteers be flexible and understanding if there are last-minute changes.

Weekday Volunteers & Meal Providers
In addition to Saturday work groups, we also need a few volunteers to work on this house during the week. Weekday volunteers typically work in smaller groups (3 to 5 people each) on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays. These weekday work groups will begin in April. Sign up today if you’re interested and available to volunteer on weekdays.

We’re also looking for groups to provide meals for our Saturday work groups. If you have a connection to a church group, civic organization or restaurant that would like to provide a meal on a Saturday, please contact David at the Habitat office to sign up today. If meal providers cannot be coordinated, volunteers will be expected to provide their own lunch while on the worksite.

“Man in a Dress” Challenge
Our target fundraising goal for the Women Build house sponsorship is $60,000. We’re nearly there, with about $50,000 raised or pledged as of this morning. Two Habitat staff members have offered up a challenge to encourage Women Build to bring in the rest of this money before we begin building.

If Women Build volunteers donate or raise an additional $5,000 by February 21st I will wear a dress for the entire first day of construction. If Women Build can raise $10,000 by the 21st, Executive Director Scott Loudermelt will do the same.

Thank you again for all your support. Please call to sign up for build days and other volunteer opportunities on the Women Build site. And remember to donate/fundraise as much as you can this week to put Lillian in this home, and two men in dresses.

Thank You,
In Partnership,

David Moore

Sign-up for Volunteers Scheduled

With our first build day just a few weeks away, its time to start thinking about the Women Build construction schedule.  Habitat is hosting a volunteer orientation session and sign-up night for Women Build.  Please join us at 6:00pm on Thursday, February 12th in the auditorium of the Mitchell Community College Continuing Education building.

During this session we will review the basics of volunteering for Habitat.  We will discuss age limits, safety precautions, what to bring and what to wear.  We will also give an overview of the construction schedule from start to finish.  At the end of this session we will begin signing up volunteers for build days.  We highly recommend that everyone attend this orientation session if you plan to volunteer on the Women Build work site.  If you’re not able to attend, you will be able to sign up for any open spaces on the construction schedule in the weeks to follow.

**If you are planning to volunteer as part of a group, please appoint one person from your group to attend the orientation and also to serve as your group coordinator in signing up for build days.

Please keep in mind that we have over 300 volunteers signed up for Women Build.  With such a large group, this sign-up process is necessary to ensure that we have a safe number of people working on site each day.  This process will also ensure that all 300+ volunteers have a chance to participate.

If you have any questions, please contact the Habitat office at 704-871-0409.  Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you on the 12th.  Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.  It has been great to see Women Build come together.  I’m excited to see this build get started and I look forward to working with each of you on site.

In Partnership,

David Moore

Dear Women Build Volunteers

I hope all of you had a joyous Holiday season. I also hope that you are all eagerly awaiting the start of the Women Build project in January. I know I am.

The next few months are going to be an exciting time for Women Build. On January 24th at the Fourth Creek Village subdivision, we will break ground for Lillian’s home. Shortly thereafter, you will be pounding nails (hopefully not your own!), measuring, cutting, laughing, crying and celebrating our accomplishment: a house built by local women, in partnership with a very special woman. I can’t wait.

There is a bit more work to be done before we can begin building though. We are two-thirds of the way to accomplishing our fundraising goal of $60,000; the amount needed to fully sponsor the Women Build home. To get there, we are going to need your help. I hope you will consider making a donation to help sponsor the Women Build home. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated, but please consider giving $200, $100 or even $50 to help us reach our goal. Some of our previous donors made contributions in honor or in memory of their grandmother, mother, daughter, or another special woman in their life. What a fitting tribute to those women who have made a difference in your life. Honorarium or memorial gifts are acknowledged with a card to the recipient. Also, please remember that all donations to Habitat for Humanity are tax deductible.

If you have not yet made a donation to Women Build, please consider doing so this month. If you have already given, we appreciate your support. Please encourage your friends, family, coworkers and others to join in your support of this worthy cause.

To make a donation to help sponsor the Women Build home, please contact Ann Trent at Habitat for Humanity of Iredell County. Ann can be reached at 704-871-0409 or via e-mail at ann@habitatiredell.org. You can also make donations online through Habitat’s website at www.habitatiredell.org. (When donating online, please be sure to note that your donation should be directed towards the Women Build sponsorship cost).

Thank you all for signing up to be part of this great mission. Together, we will build a home for Lillian and help Habitat take another small step towards eliminating poverty housing from our community. This will be an accomplishment we can all be proud of.

See you at the construction site!

Sincerely,
Mary Katherine Harbin
Women Build Fundraising Leader
